Skills for Her

Skills for Her primarily targets young women between 18 and 24 in rural and low-income communities in Ghana, who are looking for training opportunities to start their own vocational skill-based businesses. The project is grouped in a cohort of 30 participants who are taken through training workshops, lasting a period of three months. Participants are engaged five times in a week for 3 hours.



The project consists of 3 Modules:


Module 1: Compulsory entrepreneurial lessons for all participants 


Module 2: Participants select a vocational skill in their area of interest, through digital platforms, showcasing videos and live interaction sessions. 


a. Bead works : Jewelry : Earrings, chains and bracelets , Accessories

b. Catering: Local drinks and snacks

c. Cosmetics and Weaves

d. Making household cleaning products : Soap and Detergent


Module 3 : Internship opportunities 

Thereafter, participants are given a seed capital to kick start their business and pay back when interest is accrued.

Impact


Skills for Her aims at reaching at least 5000+ young women in one year. It seeks to target a primary audience of 120 participants from a rural and low-income community and 5000 on media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook. 


For the first phase of Skills for Her project, 59 sign-ups were engaged through a remote training platform. Out of the total number, 52.5% signed up for Jewelry Track training while 47.5% signed up for the Catering skills training. In all, about 90% of the participants acquired new skills because they had no prior training.
