#1 APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE
“Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.”
–Alphonse Karr

Two weeks ago, I joined a team of volunteers from Young at Heart GH. to embark on an outreach dubbed #ICTSummerCamp in the Akaa Community in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The weeklong outreach was under the theme “Reshape, Raise and Nurture A Future of Digital Innovators.”

Our one week stay in the Akaa Community in the Yilo Krobo District was an extraordinary experience. I learnt some lessons which I wish to share in this series titled “THE AKAA LESSONS”

The first lesson is that the people of Akaa appreciate what they have. The Akaa community and it’s evirons do not have access to basic amenities such as electricity, pipe-borne water, tarred roads. etc. Some children have to walk very long distance each day to attend the only community school in the area. In spite of these challenges, they are grateful for the blessings Nature has bestowed on them. Have a conversation with the natives and be sure they will mention and speak highly of the beautiful landscape, the amazing Boti falls and Akaa waterfalls, the famous umbrella  rock as well as the three headed palm tree.

Like the people of Akaa, we have to appreciate what we have and count our blessings. It is important to count your blessings because it will not only “suprise you what the Lord has done” for you, it will also make you sensitive to the needs of others. We all have challenges in our lives. However, we should not let these challenges make us blind to the blessings God has bestowed on us.

It is not wrong to desire to have more, but your desire to have more should not cause you to fail to appreciate and cherish that which you already possess.

Appreciate what you have
